Message from the Rector for the academic year 2014-2015
The academic year 2014-2015 is also the final year of the University Communist Party Committee
term (2010-2015) and the mid-term of CTU Rectorate Board (2012-2017). Therefore, CTU will
mainly focus our attempts on 10 crucial tasks, including (i) continuing to strengthen, promote and
implement the innovations in undergraduate training programs applied the credit-based system from
Batch 40th; (ii) creating a significant shift in quality and management of postgraduate training; (iii)
continuing to implement the scientific and technological missions in accordance with the top five
priorities in scientific research up to the year 2020, especially the key areas that meet the demands of
the development of both CTU and the localities in the Mekong Delta (applications of high technology
in agriculture, aquaculture-fisheries and environment; sustainable use and management of natural
resources; engineering, information and communication technologies; education, social sciences and
humanities, and laws; economic development and markets); (iv) continuing to improve the quality
of the Vietnamese Scientific Journal of the University and gain the approval to call for papers for the
special numbers of our Scientific Journal published in English language, increasing the number of
scientific articles published in both domestic and international journals; (v) strengthening the capacity
and completing the organizational affairs of the governance and management system of the University
at all levels; (vi) maintaining and expanding effective cooperative relationships with domestic and
international training and research institutions and organizations; (vii) completing the construction
and operating the center for executive affairs and postgraduate education (so-called ofically as Can
Tho University Administration Block) and the Center of National Defence Education (National Defence
Education Center) at Hoa An Campus (the fourth campus of CTU); (viii) continuing to equip additional
facilities to serve the teaching, learning and research activities as well as the administration work of
the University effectively; (ix) improving the income of the University's staff members; and (x) making
efforts to finish all necessary preparations to receive and implement the Japanese ODA Project on
"Upgrading Can Tho University to become an excellent institution in training, research and technology
transfer" approved by the Vietnamese Government and JICA.
