Promoting the training and scientific-technological activities towards
the development needs of the city and provinces in the Mekong Delta,
especially agricultural restructuring
In great attempts to perform CTU's active roles as the cultural, scientific and technological regional center
to promote the socio-economic development of the thirteen city and provinces (the provincial levels) of the
Mekong Delta, the University has been strengthening very close and in-depth cooperation at multilevel with
the local authorities in training high quality human resources, conducting scientific-technological research, and
transferring innovative knowledge and technology towards the objectives of sustainable development of the
region. In fact, CTU has been widely recognized as "a community university" for its contributions so far.
In 2014, CTU boosted training part-time and distance learning undergraduate programs in many localities
in the Mekong Delta, making up the total number of current students in these types of training more than
25,000 ones, in which the most prominent distribution was in the city and provinces of Dong Thap, Can Tho
and Vinh Long.
The scientific and technological activities were also fostered with the focus on signing and implementing
comprehensive cooperation with the local authorities at the lower levels (such as district and communal
levels), aiming at solving specific problems or serving particular needs of the localities associated with
the transfer of technology into production realities. In the year of 2004, CTU signed more comprehensive
cooperation agreements with the three provinces of Hau Giang, Ben Tre and Vinh Long and their localities.
CTU has been making great efforts to cooperate with the localities of the Mekong Delta, especially playing the
counseling roles to support the local authorities to set up specific agricultural restructuring models applying
to specific areas based on the practical situations of each locality. In reality, it is very important to have
appropriate evaluation to promote the potentials, the available strengths and advantages of the localities in
order to help increase value chains for agricultural production with high productivity and economic values,
and ensure stable markets for local farmers. With these efforts, CTU also contributes to implementing
the Government's policies in creating a link among local leaders-farmers-scientists-enterprises to promote
sustainable socio-economic development of the region.
In 2015, CTU will continue to strongly promote effective cooperation with some localities to support the
construction and implementation of the restructuring of the agricultural sector in the provinces of Dong Thap
and Ben Tre towards improving the quality and value of agricultural products of the Mekong Delta.
