A study was conducted to evaluate the effects of inclusion of Catfish (Pangasius hypophthalmus) scrap meat protein hydrolysate (SMH) and probiotic (P) in diets on the performances and diarrhoea incidence of weaned piglets. A total of 48 crossbred castrated (Yorkshire x Landrace) male piglets (8.0 ± 1.5 kg/piglet) at weaning were allocated into four treatment groups in a randomized completed block design. In each group, the piglets were divided randomly into 3 pens (replicates), with 4 piglets per pen. The control diet was commercial feed (CF), which use fish meal as main protein source, and the experimental diets consisted of three different diets, in which main protein source from SMH with (SMP) and without (SM) probiotic supplementation at 0.1%, or with antibiotic (SMA). The results showed that, average daily gain (ADG) was the lowest in SM (334.2 g/head/day) and SMA (335.3 g/head/day), the highest was in piglets fed CF (368.7 g/head/day) and SMP (362.1 g/head/day). Feed consumption of piglets was not significantly different from SMA (718 g/head/day) to CF (725.9 g/head/day). Feed conversion ratio (FCR) was the highest in SM (2.15 kg feed/kg gain) and SMA (2.14 kg feed/kg gain), the lowest in the others two diets CF (1.97 kg feed/kg gain) and SMP (1.99kg feed/kg gain). Piglets fed commercial feed and antibiotic suplementation in the diet were less affected by diarrhoea, and the diet with probiotic were less effect of diarrhoea than without probiotic supplementation. In conclusion, it is better to combine the Catfish scrap meat protein hydrolysate and probiotic in diets for weaned piglets, resulting in improving average daily gain and feed conversion ratio, and reduced diarrhoea incidence and faecal score, so it can compare with commercial feed.
