A metal-organic framework Cu(OBA) was synthesized and characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (PXRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermalgravimetric analysis (TGA), and atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS). The Cu(OBA) was used as heterogeneous catalyst for the oxidative coupling reaction of phenylacetylene, diethylamine, and benzenesulfonamide via an ynamine intermediate to form (Z)-N,N-diethyl-2-phenyl-N'-(phenylsulfonyl)acetimidamide as the principal product. The activity of Cu(OBA) was showed to be higher than that of other frequently reported Cu-MOFs and comparable to common copper salts. Furthermore, the Cu(OBA) could be separated from the reaction mixture by filtration, and could be recovered and reused several times without a significant degradation in catalytic activity.
