ZigBee, built based on IEEE 802.15.4, is a worldwide standard for wireless personal area network. It is designed for flexible wide range applications which require low cost and low power consumption, for instance, consumer electronics, computer peripherals, medical data collection, embedded sensing, to disaster recovery, battlefield communication, industrial control, and commercial building. Each network, however, has its own characteristics when using in various applications. Therefore, selecting a suitable routing protocols play an important role in improving performance of the network. In recent year, many of various routing protocols have been developed and some performance simulations are made on numbers of routing protocols like AODV, AOMDV, R-AODV, PHR-AODV, VSDE, DSR, DSDV and GPSR. In this paper, we performed simulations using Network Simulator 2 (NS2) considering six performance metrics. To determine the impact of network criteria on the performance of these protocols which considered six different scenarios of namely, increasing velocity, increasing number of nodes, increasing number of sources, increasing number of nodes with constant density, increasing data rate, and increasing packet size, respectively. This study is an important step in understanding the performance of various routing protocols in ZigBee network and is a fundamental part for application designers to choose an appropriate protocol for their specific application scenarios.
