This study analyzes the status quo of international tourism demand to Vietnam. Six major markets including the USA, the UK, Russia, South Korea, Japan and Australia, were selected to analyze tourism demand for Vietnam. Through the analysis of the current situation of tourism demand of international tourists in Vietnam from 2008 to 2019, the author draws some conclusions as follows. South Korea and Russia are the two most potential markets, when compared to rest analyzed markets and even other big markets in the same region in terms of competitiveness. Meanwhile, Australia is the most unpredictable market with erratic ups and downs, in addition, Vietnam's competitiveness when compared to other substitute markets is always below. Regardless of these above obstacles, the income of foreign currency from Australia is very stable and always in the top rank, long-term strategies are needed to attract more Australian tourists. The remaining three markets are long and stable, the USA, the UK and Japan, with steady growth, but the performance of those nations struggles to compare with emerging markets like Russia and South Korea.
