Copepods are important initial feed for marine fish larvae as they are consistent with mouth size of the fish larvae, containing high levels of highly unsaturated fatty acid which is essential for the development of fish larvae. The study aimed to assess the feasibility of mass culture of the copepod Schmackeria dubia in large scale in order to produce copepod biomass for marine fish larviculture industry. The experiment was designed with four treatments in which copepods were stocked in a 30 L tank system compared with those in 100 L tank system operated with continuous and batch culture. Salinity was remained at 20 ppt. Copepods were fed with Chaetoceros calcitrans at 500,000 cells/mL. During the culture period, continuous aeration system was remained. Biomass of copepods in continuous culture was harvested every 3 days at 20% of total biomass when reached the density of 5-6 ind./mL. No harvest was done in the batch culture until the end of experiment (after one month).
