Mashing up physical resources with virtual environments provides a bigger potential for new applications using sensor and actuation networks. However, it also brings many challenges because of the limitations as well as the heterogeneity of sensor nodes and networks. As a matter of fact, a hybrid approach should be the one best suited for most needs of integration and interoperability between sensor networks and other virtual environments. This paper presents our RESTful Web Service-based model for this purpose. In addition, we also present two illustrated scenarios of mashups between sensor networks and the Facebook social network and Second Life virtual world platforms
